My Dream of Flying – And How It Became Reality

Sometimes I wonder when this dream truly began. Maybe it was the day I first sat in a tiny Cessna 150, hands shaking, heart racing. I was nervous, excited, and completely hooked. Today, I sit in the cockpit of an Airbus A320, and even after more than ten years in aviation, that feeling hasn’t gone away. Every time I push the thrust levers forward and hear the engines spool up, I still get goosebumps. That moment never loses its magic.

My Journey to the Cockpit

When I discovered the Fast Track Program at Eurowings, I knew this was my chance. If you have 4,000 flight hours, you can apply directly for the captain’s seat. No years of waiting, no detours. For me, it was the perfect opportunity to take the next step.

The training was demanding but well-structured. Ground School, simulator sessions, and LIFUS flights prepared me for everything I needed. From day one, I felt supported. I wasn’t just pushed to perform; I was guided and encouraged. That made all the difference.

Why I Love This Job

I love the variety. No two days are the same. Different routes, an international Team, exciting stories. That’s what keeps me motivated. There is always that one moment when I say ‘Take-off’ and Even after ten years, I still get goosebumps every time. What makes me happiest? The people I work with. They’re open, funny, and always ready to help. We share laughs, we share responsibility, and that sense of teamwork is something I truly value.

My Work Model: Wings Pattern

Today, I fly under the Wings Pattern model. It means 20 days on duty followed by at least ten consecutive days off. Sometimes even more if I add vacation. Those off-blocks feel like a mini holiday every month.
At home with my family in Bad Ischl, not far from Salzburg, I can truly switch off and recharge. The first thing I do when I get home? Hug my wife and kids. Those moments are priceless.
During my duty period, everything is taken care of. Accommodation, transport, and an allowance are provided by Eurowings. That gives me peace of mind so I can focus on what matters most: safe and comfortable flights for our guests.
And the best part? I get to start from different bases across Europe, which adds even more variety. Being part of the Lufthansa Group also means access to a strong network and ID Travel benefits that open up great opportunities for private trips.

Looking Back

My first flight was nerve-wracking. Today, I’m more relaxed, but the sense of wonder is still there. The technology fascinates me every time. Every time I do the outside check, I can’t help but think, what an incredible piece of engineering.I knew I wanted to be a pilot when I realized a nine-to-five office job wasn’t for me. I need movement, new perspectives, and constant change. This career gives me all of that. Most of my work blocks end with a smooth landing and a smile.

My Advice for Anyone Thinking About Applying

Just do it. If you want responsibility, variety, and a strong team, this is the right place for you. And if you’ve flown a different aircraft type before, don’t worry. We provide the Type Rating for the Airbus A320 family.
I’m glad I made this choice. For me, this job means going to work with joy, exploring the world, and never feeling stuck behind a desk.
