From the Sky to the Office: My Journey as a Team Lead at Eurowings

It’s a pleasure to share with you, dear readers, what a normal day looks like for a Team Lead at Eurowings, especially in my case, Team lead Wings Pattern. This special role brings a unique rhythm to my work and life, and I’m excited to tell you more about it.

Being a Team Lead is a very interesting job. It’s full of amazing and satisfying moments. But, like every role, it also brings some unique challenges that help us grow.

What Does a Team Lead Do?

Let’s start from the beginning. What is a Team Lead? Team Leads take care and is responsible of a cabin crew team in a specific base, inside or outside Germany. We make sure that onboard standards are followed, we handle disciplinary topics, we join assessment days, cabin crew and Purser talks and more. Our work is divided between office days and flying days as a Purser.

This mix makes the job fun and exciting because every day is different. It’s a perfect balance between days on the ground and days in the air. We never get bored!

The Wings Pattern

And what is the Wings Pattern? The pattern involves 20 duty days (flying from different EW bases) and then 10 days off at home. The crew can choose where to live during those 10 days. Some use this time to travel the world and enjoy holidays every month. Sounds amazing, right? I was lucky to join this new concept that started in March 2024, now with a total of 286 cabin crew members.

A Month Full of Variety

A normal month for me is full of movement and variety. I start by enjoying my free days at home in Hamburg. Then I travel to PRG, Spain, or Greece for a few days to join cabin crew assessment days. After that, I fly to PMI for team lead meetings with colleagues from other bases. Later, I go to DUS or another base to fly as a Purser. Between all these trips, I also have office days. Sometimes I work from a hotel between flights, from home, or from the crew room at the airport, depending on where I am. I use this time to meet and connect with colleagues from different bases, which is always a nice part of the job.

Challenges and Creativity on the Go

One thing I love about my job is that it’s not just one task. I can do different things from different places. Of course, this also means I need to be flexible and creative. For example, staying healthy while traveling takes planning and smart choices. And because my team flies from different bases, it’s not always easy to meet them in person. So, I try to find new ways to stay connected and support them.

Sometimes I wake up and need to think: which hotel or base am I in? One night I woke up at home and thought I was on a layover. I got a bit scared when I saw my husband next to me, I thought he was a stranger! Hehe. That doesn’t happen in other jobs.

The Bright Side of Leadership

Every role has its mix of easy and hard moments, but in my experience, the good ones always shine brighter. After almost 9 years at EW, I can truly say the positives clearly outnumber the challenges.

As a Team Lead, you work with many departments. We all work together to make things run well. We try hard to listen and improve every day. This gave me the chance to meet wonderful people, not only colleagues but now friends -family. We support each other, we laugh, we share. That makes this job so special. We are a great team, always ready, always creating, always improving.

A Journey of Heart and Growth

I would like to conclude by saying that being a Team Lead is not just a job, it’s a journey full of learning, connection, and adventure. I’m proud to be part of this team, and I look forward to many more flights, smiles, and stories to share.

Thanks for reading. Maybe one day we’ll cross paths, on the ground or in the sky.
